Biography
Xiaohong Fang received her B. S. degree in chemistry from Wuhan University in 1990 and obtained her M. S. and Ph. D. degrees from Peking University in 1993 and 1996, respectively. She went to University of Waterloo, Canada, in 1997 and did a one-year postdoctoral work there. During 1998-2001, she worked as a research associate at Chemistry Department and Center for Research at Bio/nano Interface at University of Florida, USA. She was appointed as a chemistry professor in the Institute of Chemistry in December of 2001. Since January 2022, she has held the positions of Deputy Director and researcher at the Hangzhou Institute of Medical Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Research Interests
Our research focuses on biomarker detection and cancer therapy. The available tumor markers, such as proteins and miRNAs, have been known to help early-stage diagnosis of diseases. A novel tumor marker related to cancer cell proliferation and recurrence are meaningful to personal cancer therapy. We developed a lot of imaging methods to identify and recognize tumor, especially, we have got a lot of information about tumor from extracellular vesicles (EVs) released by various cell types. Meanwhile, we aim to find out the mechanism of drug resistance of tumor and carry out many methods to treat tumor by targeting the biomarkers, such as protein degradation and genetic engineering.
